Tyrur’s Big chance to Mike his mark
TYRUR BIG MIKE can come through his biggest test to date in the semi-finals of the Ladbrokes.com Irish Derby over 550 yards at Shelbourne Park on Saturday.
Conor Fahy’s runner came through last week’s ‘quarter-final of death’ to clock the quickest time of the session but faces a field which would be worthy of any Derby decider in these lop-sided semi-finals.
However, judged on the facts, he cannot be opposed. Mike is without doubt the quickest in the Derby after clocking 29.42 in the third round and is running out of his skin.
All traps seem to come alike; he’s won from two last week and is also very effective out wide. Take him to make all.
Crasher set for another smasher
TOLERTON CRASHER can complete an unbeaten run through the Texacloth Puppy Derby with victory in tonight’s (Friday) final over 525 yards at Newbridge.
Seamus Graham’s runner, who beat Shoemakers Lad in 28.65 last week, has really impressed throughout the event and has clocked the fastest time in each round.
His 28.40 second-round defeat of Kerrydale Lar, who looks the chief danger in the final, was a tremendous performance and could be a key line of form.
The son of Loyal Honcho has a nice turn of early speed and is surrounded by moderate starters. If he comes away on terms he should have too much firepower for the opposition.
Catunda decider
THE biggest stake of the year will be decided at Youghal next Monday when the final of the €6,100-to-the-winner Catunda Harry Champion Stakes, sponsored by Larry O’Rourke and the Track Supporters Club.
Derby meeting boasts €185k in prize money
THERE will be around €185,000 in prize money on the table at Saturday week’s Ladbrokes Derby final meeting.
Connections of the big-race winner will pick up €120,000 and there’s another €45,000 spread between the ‘also rans’ in the decider, won last year by 5-4 favourite College Causeway.
